Junior High School students at Dachio Tenga-Noore in the Bolgatanga East District will no longer have to share a three-classroom facility with primary school pupils following the provision of a new JHS block by the District Assembly.
The new facility, funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund, is expected to ease overcrowding that had forced school authorities to partition some classrooms with plywood to accommodate pupils and students.
District Chief Executive for Bolgatanga East, Jacob Abugre Aka-Eri, said the existing facility had only three classrooms serving the primary school, while the JHS was also operating from the same structure.
He said the situation had become inadequate as enrolment increased, compelling school authorities to improvise to create additional learning spaces.
“We saw that the situation was unacceptable. In 2024, when we went to the community to campaign, the people of Dachio Tenga-Noore appealed to the Assembly to provide them with a suitable school facility. Today, we are here because there is an urgent need to provide them with a standard Junior High School block,” Mr. Aka-Eri said.
He said the Assembly was committed to addressing educational infrastructure challenges across the district and providing suitable environments for teaching and learning.
Bolgatanga East District Director of Education, Agatha Awiah, said the Directorate had worked for years to secure a suitable classroom facility for the community.
“We have come a very long way in our search for a befitting classroom facility for the people of Dachio Tenga-Noore and their wards to have a conducive learning environment. We are therefore happy and excited to see this new Junior High School block in Dachio,” she said.
Madam Awiah expressed hope that the facility would improve teaching and learning conditions for students and teachers.
The facility was presented to the community in the presence of officials of the Bolgatanga East District Assembly and Education Directorate, teachers, parents, students and community members.
