The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has handed over two newly constructed Kindergarten (KG) school blocks to the Yorogo-Gaabiisi and Dorongo-Aperiga communities in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.
The facilities, aimed at improving early childhood education infrastructure, were constructed from the Assembly’s Common Fund at a combined cost of more than GH¢1.5 million.
The Yorogo-Gaabiisi block cost GH¢770,863.80, while the Dorongo-Aperiga block cost GH¢761,808.60.
Each facility consists of a two-unit Kindergarten block with an office, a storeroom, a four-seater KVIP toilet, a two-unit urinal and a playground.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga said the investment underscores the Assembly’s commitment to laying a strong foundation for children at the earliest stage of their education.
“At the Kindergarten level in particular, children begin to develop the cognitive, social, emotional and communication skills that prepare them for successful progression through the basic education system. It is therefore important that our children are provided with safe, appropriate and stimulating learning environments from the very beginning of their educational journey,” the MCE said.
He emphasised that the new blocks are more than just buildings, describing them as a strategic investment in the future of the municipality.
“The commissioning of this facility today is, therefore, more than the opening of a physical structure. It represents an investment in the future of the children in these communities and, by extension, the future of the Bolgatanga Municipality. We expect that the infrastructure will help address challenges associated with inadequate classroom space and create a more comfortable environment for teaching and learning,” he noted.
The MCE, however, stressed that infrastructure alone is not enough to guarantee quality education and called for collective effort.
“As an Assembly, we recognize that infrastructure alone cannot guarantee quality education. We must complement infrastructure development with qualified and motivated teachers, teaching and learning materials, effective supervision, parental involvement and a supportive community environment,” he added.
On behalf of the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Municipal Director of Education, George Asira, thanked the Assembly for the gesture and assured the MCE that the facilities would be put to good use to enhance teaching and learning.
Community members and school authorities present at the ceremony expressed joy over the new blocks, noting that they would help decongest existing classrooms and provide a conducive learning environment for the pupils.
