Former Bongo District Chief Executive Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdor says he will institute a twice yearly development stocktaking forum bringing together the NDC’s regional and constituency leadership, Members of Parliament and government appointees if elected Upper East Regional Secretary of the party.

Mr Ayamdor said the proposed forum would provide a platform for stakeholders to periodically assess government programmes and projects in the Upper East Region, identify development priorities and discuss how the region could position itself to attract more investment.

Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga programme, the former DCE argued that the NDC’s regional leadership should take an active interest in development issues rather than limiting its activities to party organisation and political mobilisation.

According to him, stronger coordination among the party leadership, MPs and government appointees could help ensure that concerns from constituencies are brought to the attention of officials responsible for addressing them.

As part of that approach, Mr Ayamdor said the proposed forum would be held every six months to take stock of the implementation of the NDC’s manifesto and government programmes in the region.

He said it would also provide an opportunity to examine areas where the Upper East Region could attract greater investment and development opportunities.

Mr Ayamdor argued that development should form an important part of the relationship between the party and communities, particularly now that the NDC holds all 15 parliamentary seats in the Upper East Region.

The NDC won all 15 constituencies in the region in the 2024 parliamentary election after capturing Binduri, the only Upper East seat previously held by the New Patriotic Party.

Mr Ayamdor said maintaining the party’s electoral gains would require experienced leadership and effective organisation at the regional level.

He consequently appealed to NDC delegates to support his bid for Regional Secretary, saying his previous experience within the party and in local government had prepared him for the position.

Mr Ayamdor cited projects undertaken during his tenure as Bongo DCE as examples of the experience he would bring to the regional secretariat.

He said his administration focused on water, healthcare, education and agriculture and introduced what he described as the “Green Book” to document and track development projects implemented across communities in the district.

According to him, the document captured interventions involving schools, Community-based Health Planning and Services compounds and other projects undertaken during his tenure.

Mr Ayamdor also cited the establishment of Azeem-Namoa Senior High School, a community day senior high school, as one of the initiatives pursued while he was DCE.

He said his administration worked with traditional authorities, Assembly Members and community leaders to secure land and complete documentation for the school as part of efforts to expand access to secondary education.

In agriculture, he said some farmers received motorised tricycles, commonly known as Motor Kings, to support farming and transportation.

Mr Ayamdor said his experience as DCE had strengthened his understanding of how political leadership, elected representatives and government officials could work together on development issues.

He said that if elected Regional Secretary, he would seek to build a regional secretariat that works closely with constituency executives while maintaining regular engagement with MPs and government appointees.

Mr Ayamdor also urged aspirants in the NDC’s constituency elections to conduct their campaigns peacefully and avoid actions that could undermine unity after the contests.

He is seeking to return to the NDC Upper East Regional Secretariat as the party’s elected Regional Secretary.
