Regentropfen University College in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region has launched a fund to provide financial assistance to academically talented students who struggle to pursue higher education because of financial difficulties.

The Regentropfen Fund for Needy but Brilliant Students is intended to establish a sustainable source of financial support for students who might otherwise be unable to enrol in or complete their university education.

The initiative was launched during the institution’s 10th anniversary celebration on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Namoo-Kansoe, under the theme, “From Vision to Reality: A Decade of Promoting Talents and Shaping Future Minds.”

Speaking at the launch, the Dean of Students, Dacosta Aboagye, said the fund was established in recognition of the financial challenges preventing many academically capable young people from pursuing tertiary education.

He explained that although some students possessed the academic potential to succeed at university, their families lacked the resources to support their education.

According to him, the fund would complement the institution’s existing scholarship schemes and Work and Study programme, which have provided financial assistance to students over the years.

Mr Aboagye said the initiative was intended to create a sustainable support system that would enable more students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds to access higher education.

He described contributions to the fund as investments not only in the education of individual students but also in the future of their families and communities.

The Dean of Students therefore appealed to alumni, staff, corporate institutions, development partners and other well-wishers to contribute towards sustaining the initiative.

He stressed that contributions of any amount could make a difference when combined with support from other individuals and organisations.

Drawing inspiration from the institution’s name, Regentropfen, a German word meaning “raindrops,” Mr Aboagye encouraged stakeholders to contribute towards expanding educational opportunities for disadvantaged students.

“As raindrops make a mighty ocean, let our little drops of contribution today come together to create an ocean of opportunities for needy but brilliant students,” he said.

As part of the launch, the institution unveiled an investment signboard on which contributors were invited to sign after making donations.

According to the organisers, the signboard would serve as a record of individuals and organisations that supported the initiative and would be preserved for future anniversary celebrations.

The fund forms part of Regentropfen University College’s efforts to expand access to tertiary education, particularly for students whose financial circumstances limit their opportunities.

The institution, established in 2016, has grown from an initial enrolment of 46 students to approximately 1,300 students in 2026.

Its management hopes the fund will complement existing financial assistance programmes and enable more students to pursue higher education in the coming years.
