An aspiring constituency executive member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bongo, Isaac Akugre, has expressed concern over the impact of chieftaincy disputes, political divisions and personal interests on the development of Bongo Soe in the Upper East Region.

According to him, the community has significant development potential, but persistent disagreements among residents and local leaders have undermined efforts to improve infrastructure and social amenities.

Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tooma La Dengo Sanga, Mr Akugre, a professional teacher, urged young people in the community to put aside their political differences and work together to address challenges affecting the area.

He argued that meaningful development would remain difficult to achieve unless residents prioritised their collective interests over political affiliations and personal disagreements.

Mr Akugre called for the establishment of a strong and inclusive youth association to mobilise young people and provide a common platform for advocating development projects.

He said such an association would enable the youth to engage traditional authorities, political leaders and other stakeholders in demanding infrastructure and essential social services.

The aspiring NDC executive member also appealed to traditional leaders, community elders and other influential individuals to resolve their differences and support initiatives that would benefit the entire community.

He stressed that political and chieftaincy interests should not be allowed to undermine the future of young people.

“The future is now. We came and met political parties and chieftaincy institutions, and we will surely leave without them,” he said.

Mr Akugre maintained that Bongo Soe should be among the most industrious and fastest-growing communities in the district but alleged that internal disagreements had slowed its progress.

He therefore urged young people to take greater responsibility for promoting unity and development.

According to him, overcoming the challenges facing Bongo Soe would require cooperation among residents, traditional authorities and political actors, regardless of their individual interests.

Mr Akugre, popularly known as Afro Media, also used the interview to discuss his candidature in the upcoming NDC constituency executive elections in Bongo.

Having filed his nomination to contest an executive position, he urged delegates to carefully assess the intentions, commitment and leadership qualities of aspirants before casting their votes.

He argued that the constituency needed leaders who would prioritise development and work towards addressing the concerns of party members and the wider community.

Mr Akugre, who is contesting as candidate number eight on the ballot paper, expressed confidence in his ability to contribute to the party’s activities and development efforts in the constituency.

He reiterated that unity and cooperation among the youth, traditional authorities and political leaders would be essential to addressing the challenges confronting Bongo Soe.
