A1 Radio journalist Moses Apiah has been nominated for the 30th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards, scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026, in Accra.
The nomination comes weeks after he was named Overall Journalist of the Year at the 5th Upper East Regional GJA Awards, where he also won awards for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights Reporting and Child Protection Reporting.
His recognition at the regional awards followed two public-interest reports examining period poverty among girls in conflict-affected Bawku and the challenges faced by two siblings allegedly defiled while seeking justice.
Reacting to his latest recognition, Mr Apiah described the nomination as an affirmation of the important role rural journalists play in highlighting development challenges and contributing to national discourse.
He said the recognition demonstrated that journalism produced outside Ghana’s major media centres could attract national attention and receive recognition for its impact.
“It is proof that rural journalism is key to development and that the work of journalists in rural communities can receive recognition at the national level,” he said.
Mr Apiah is among several journalists from the Upper East Region nominated for this year’s national awards. Others include Francis Dabre Dabang, Nicholas Azebire and Gilbert Azeem Tiroog. The 30th GJA Media Awards will recognise outstanding journalistic works published in 2025 across print, radio, television, online and digital media platforms.
According to the GJA, the Association received 327 entries from 206 journalists, with 326 entries reviewed by a nine-member awards committee. The awards ceremony will be held under the theme, “Celebrating Excellence, Advancing Media Freedom and Combating Hate Speech in the Digital Age.”
