Disqualified applicants for the position of District Chief Executive position in the Kasena-Nankana West District in the Upper East are fighting the party executives of the New Patriotic Party for disqualifying them from the race.

According to the disqualified applicants, party executives did not follow the constitutionally approved method of shortlisting individuals for the position of District Chief Executive.

“The executives did not follow due process in shortlisting the five applicants for the position. Twelve executives met and just decided to shortlist five people of their choice without vetting all the applicants.”

They noted that the meeting to decide on the final five people who will be forwarded to the Regional level for vetting took place at a drinking spot adding that some executives including the chairman were compromised by some applicants who made the list.

But Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party in the Chiana/Paga speaking on a1radio’s Daybreak Upper East debunked claims made by the disqualified candidates.

According to him, executives of the party and council of elders in the constituency followed all constitutionally mandated processes before a decision was reached on the final five people shortlisted for the position.

He indicated that he had just a day to shortlist the applicants who were sixteen in number so he and his executives and party elders in the constituency had to resort to voting after they had thoroughly scrutinized the CVs of applicants.

“The letter was written on February 4 and I received it on the 5th and was supposed to forward it to the Regional level on February 6 for vetting on Tuesday so the best we could do is to scrutinize their CVs and vote with the party elders, the best five people who are qualified for the position. We followed the constitutional process to select the final five people.”

In all, sixteen persons applied for the position as District Chief Executive for the Kasena-Nankana West District.
