Afrikids Launch Energy Saving Cooking Stove

Afrikids GhanaAs part of efforts to reduce deforestation, Afrikids Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization that concentrates on women and children’s rights has launched energy saving cooking stoves.

The stove uses 60% less charcoal compared to the other cooking stoves. It also produces 80% less smoke which helps users to reduce the purchase of fuel by about 50% and thereby contributes greatly to reducing global warming.

Speaking at the launch over the weekend, the Upper East Regional Programs Manager of Afikids Ghana, Richard Amoah, said Afikids as an organization working for the welfare of the vulnerable, realizes the need to protect the environment from depletion, hence, the need for the introduction of the energy saving cooking stove.

Mrs. Jessica Alderman, Director of Communications and Public Relations for Envirofit, producers of the stove said the stove has been customized to meet every individual’s needs. She added that, Envirofit is working in 55 countries which include Ghana.

Mr. Raymond Ayine, External Affairs Director for Afrikids, said the envirofit business with Afirkids is one of Afrikids several social enterprise and any profit generated from the project is not going to be share with any shareholder but would be utilized in Ghana in the sponsorship of Afrikids charitable works.
