Tongrana worried over illegal mining in parts of Talensi; to address press Saturday

The paramount Chief of the Talensi traditional area, Tongrana Kubilsong Nalebtang will tomorrow, May 6 address a press conference on issues bothering the illegal mining activities in Tongo in the Upper East region.
He disclosed this when the regional minister, Rockson Bukari, his Deputy Frank Fuseini Adongo and a high powered delegation paid a courtesy call on him at his Palace in Tongo.
He said: “There is a lot happening in Talensi but in due time I will tell the Regional Minister. For now, I have decided to address a press conference on the mining issues in my area because it is of great concern and worry to me and my chiefs. I will address address the press tomorrow on the mining issues here”.
He, however, assured the Regional minister of his unflinching support to help in the development and growth of the Upper East region.

On his part, the regional minister, Rockson Bukari was grateful the Chief had joined the crusade to help stop ‘galamsey’ .

He appealed to the Chief to aid in the easy release of lands to for developmental projects.

” I will appeal to the chief to aid in the easy release of lands to the government when the need be so that we can build hospitals, schools, clinics and other social facilities to ensure the region also has her fair share of development.”
This week, a group calling itself Concerned Citizens of Talensi in a press conference called on all stakeholders to help expunge Shangzii Mining Ltd from the area due to several illegal activities the mining company is engaged in and the inhumane treatment meted out to Ghanaians working with the company.
