Ghana’s hopes of winning her third U-17 AFCON trophy was dashed when their Malian counterparts beat them in the final of the U-17 AFCON held in Gabon.
Mamadou Samake scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after Ghana’s defender, John Otu had brought down Mali attacker Facinet Doss Soumah in the penalty.
Ghana was hoping to be the first country to win the U-17 AFCON for the third time.
Mali joins the likes of Ghana, Nigeria, and Gambia as the only African sides to have won the competition on two occasions.
Ghana has, however, qualified for this year’s U-17 World Cup to be hosted by India.
