The Public Relations Officer for Shanxi mining company, Maxwell Wooma has said the group ‘Patriotic Citizens of Gbane’ is made up of only two people who do not know what is going on in their community.

Patriotic Citizens of Gbane on Friday released a statement calling on the government to deport Chinese Nationals in Gbane for defying orders of the Paramount Chief and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to end mining activities in the area.

But speaking to a1radioonline.com, Maxwell Wooma said: ” The press release is from two people who sat in Bolgatanga and met the press without knowing what is going on in their community. Also, the signature purported to be that of Comrade Yaro is not his signature because we have dealt with him before”.

Maxwell indicated that Shanxii has sent home 500 of its workers after the ban on mining activities in the area and has not on any occasion mined in the area.

He disclosed that Shanxii only blasted some days ago after the Lands and Natural resources Minister handed them the opportunity to blast to prevent encroachments on their facility.

“There are some pits that are undergoing illegal mining activities and are encroaching our facility. These illegal mining pits are found in the houses of Kwasi bantam, kwasi matcho, and one other person. We met the Minister to seek his permission to blast in order to prevent these encroachers from encroaching our facility and that is all we have done since the ban.”

He noted that the only human resources available in the Office of Shanxii are people to care and maintain their facility, people to pump water to avoid flood and administrative staff to coordinate the activities of the company and also deal with issues concerning their ban.

“We have sent our 500 workers home because of the ban on mining activities in Gbane. We have only three groups of workers in our office operating and they are just administrative workers and people who will have to care and maintain for our facility and individuals to pump water at the facility.”

He indicated that the people of Gbane do not have a problem with the Shanxii mining company and they will continue to exist in the area.
