A man accused of being a wizard escaped death on his farmland on Thursday at Duusi in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.

The man, Kugre Moses aged 36, called on the police to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book. He was allegedly accused by some parents of the area of being a wizard who tries to enchant their children in the area to produce money for him.

Mr. Kugre said he was on his farmland when about five parents of some children in the area confronted him and started beating him up.

Mr. Kugre sustained head wounds and a fracture on his left leg. It took the intervention of the Zuarungu Police to rescue him to the BolgatangaHospitall for medical care. He revealed further to Citi News that this was not the first time he had been accused of wizardry.

“I was accused of this issue sometime back by this same people and was taken to the Duusi chief and the chief refereed us to a soothsayer but the soothsayer proved my  innocence.”

“I was at my farm when they came to take me back to the soothsayer again, but I told them I do not have money with me, they should take me home so that I will pick some money but they refused and started beating me.  The four parents  who attacked me are  Kapiou Batimtaba, Nagbila Boare, Gwane Batimtaba, Yin Boare, Dogpobil Batimtaba, so I want the police to arrest them and make them face  the law” Mr. Kugre narrated.

He is currently receiving treatment at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. Meanwhile, the Chief inspector of the Zuarungu police station, Stephen Amewugah told Citi News that, one suspect, Noah Yelgaoh, aged about 35 years, and involved in the attempted lynching, has been arrested by police to assist investigations. The Upper East Region is one of the areas known for the despicable act of what has become known as mob justice or instance justice.
