U/E: Police Officers beg their wives to give them space to operate

Wives of police officers have been entreated to give their husbands the peace of mind they deserve to enable them fight crime in the country.

Spouses of police men are also advised to provide the necessary comfort and support their husbands merits to enable them exhibit their mandatory roles.

ACP Paul Ayittey, Deputy Upper East regional commander of police gave this advice in Bolgatanga during the 30th Anniversary celebration of Police Wives Association (POLWA).

According to him, duties of police officers include preventing and detecting crime, to apprehend offenders and to maintain peace and order.

However, excessive demands and over protection from their wives poses a threat in their fight against crime.

“The work of the police man comes with a lot of challenges to the extent that sometimes our lives are even at risk and it requires a sound mind” ACP Ayittey remarked.

He added, “the support of our wives to give us that enabling encouragement, that support to ensure that we are on track to deliver the peaceful society that we are craving for is of essence”.

Chairman of Upper East regional branch of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Godfred Abulbire also emphasized on the need for wives of police officers to ask for a better condition of service on behalf of their husbands.

“I think that police wives have more to do. If they can table their concerns together and let them reach the IGP and raise the serious issues about the situation they are living in with their children at home, possibly it will help a lot than police men themselves to ask for a better condition of service.”

Mrs. Kandilege Rockson, wife of Upper East regional minister who graced the occasion admonished members of the association and women in general to continue to play their role in contributing to the socio-economic and political development of the country. Mrs. Rockson on the occasion called for a concerted effort to address some social menace the country is faced with.

The Police Wives Association (POLWA) exists to address disputes among wives and other ranks in the barracks. Mrs. Asiedu Vera who spoke on behalf of president of the association stated that mission of the association is to “instill discipline and cleanliness in police barracks, to promote spirit of communication among police wives on one hand, the husbands and the police administration of the other hand”
