Former President, John Dramani Mahama has said although the Free SHS programme is laudable, it is challenged because its implementation has been rushed by the governing New Patriotic Party.

The former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama said this while addressing party members at the party’s Unity Walk in the Eastern region on Saturday.

He admitted that “we all agree on the concept of Free Senior High School,” but said, “where we differ is about [it being done] progressively”.

The former President said the current government rushed in implementing the policy when various Senior High Schools in the country do not have enough dormitories, laboratories, textbooks, dining halls and even administration blocks.

He indicated that the programme which is been implemented by the government on an adhoc basis lacks a policy and called for a broader stakeholder consultation to help address the challenges resulted from its implementation.
