The Upper East Regional Command of the Ghana Immigration Service in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service has said it has repatriated 163 foreigners in the Bolgatanga Municipality.

The repatriated foreigners consisted mostly of Nigerians who were engaged in illegal business such as Q-Net and Togolese in a bus who were intercepted by the Ghana Police Service at Pwalugu coming into the municipality.

In an interview on DayBreak Upper East show on A1 Radio, the Upper East Regional Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Immigration Service, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration Martin Tioseh Soyeh said the Immigration Service is keenly monitoring the situation in Nigeria regarding the jailbreak where over 1800 inmates are reported to have escaped.

According to the PRO, the Service is on top of the issue and is on the lookout for foreigners who are illegally entering the country through unapproved routes especially since Ghana’s land borders are still closed.

ASI Tioseh Soyeh said it was imperative that residents in the municipality to be vigilant about how they rent rooms or sell lands to people they do not know else they could be hosting criminals.

He urged the general public to volunteer information about strangers who are in their communities illegally or are engaged in unlawful business since the service relies heavily on information to effectively deal with such situations.
