Former President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed suggestions that the economy of the country is in a crisis because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him the Covid – 19 pandemic only amplified the bad economic situation that was already being managed by the Akufo Addo government.
Speaking on state broadcaster, URA Radio in the Upper East Region and monitored by A1radioonline.com as part of his thank you tour on Tuesday, 17 August 2021, reiterated his earlier position that the Ghanaian economy is in crisis said “with the way the economy is going, something needs to give”, adding that he “won’t be surprised if this administration eventually goes into some sort of programme with the IMF.”
According to Mr Mahama it is obvious the economy was in distress before COVID – 19 hit.
He attributed the economic situation of the country to excessive borrowing by the government country which he believes is spent on consumption.
The 2020 President candidate of the NDC is in the Upper East Region as part of his ‘Thank you’ tour of the country.
