A Law Student, Richard Adongo has admonished the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and critiques of the Supreme Court ruling on the Deputy Speakers’ right to be counted in forming a quorum and also vote to exercise some level of decorum when criticising the ruling.

According to Mr. Adongo, some of the comments from members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are distasteful, disparaging and should not be directed at the Supreme Court.

Speaking on the Day Break Upper East show on A1Radio, Mr. Adongo revealed that, he was particularly disappointed by some of the persons making such comments because of their law background.

According to him, these critiques are lawyers who should have known better.

He stated, “some of the comments made by the opposition are dangerous and disheartening, it is more disheartening because some of those making such disparaging comments are lawyers themselves and having taken the pain to go through the Tuffour case, what happened in the Tuffour case and what’s happening now are two different things”.

According to him, “it stands to reason that no Court shall have the power to question what happens in Parliament, that one is clear and the Supreme Court did not do that on this occasion. The Supreme Court only examined the Standing Orders of Parliament and sought to say that, there is a certain inconsistency and struck the inconsistency down”.

He, therefore, advised critiques and the opposition that, a person who is found guilty in acting in contravention of Supreme Court ruling is liable to an imprisonment so they should be wary with such comments they are making.

Meanwhile, Director of Legal Affairs of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Lawyer Abraham Amaliba has revealed that the ruling on the case involving the voting rights and counting of the Deputy Speakers to form a quorum and in decision making could result in chaos in Parliament during its implementation.
