The traditional council in Bolgatanga has added their voice to calls for calm amongst youth in the Upper East Regional Capital, Bolgatanga as it makes efforts to resolve chieftaincy.
On Saturday September 26, 2015 there were fresh clashes between the two factions involved in the Chieftaincy dispute in the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga which left several injured and properties worth millions of cedis destroyed.
Addressing the media at the traditional council hall on Thursday October 1, acting President of the traditional council, Naba Johnson Awuni said the traditional council was doing everything it could to ensure that peace can be maintained between the factions to forestall future clashes.
He noted that, the recent clashes as a result of the chieftaincy dispute in the Bolgatanga municipality is new to the municipality and has marred the peace which the municipality has over the years enjoyed but was of the believe that peace will return to the municipality.
He maintained that the traditional council will not renege on its effort to settle the rift between the factions involved in the clashes but cautioned that, their effort at resolving the conflict will be fruitless if the youth continue to indulge in acts of violence.
He therefore underscored the need for the youth of the area to keep calm as the Regional House of Chiefs makes frantic efforts to ensure the dust is settled amongst the two factions
