As part of Action Aid Ghana (AAG) Sponsorship Day Celebration, a day has been set aside yearly to reflect on how Action Aid as a Non-Governmental Organization and its partners have contributed to changing lives and providing for needy communities.

This year’s event was held at the Yagzori Primary school in the Talensi District. The event brought together parents, teachers, and chiefs from other communities to deliberate on issues of development and challenges that face them as communities.

Speaking at the Sponsorship Day celebration, senior programs officer at Action Aid Ghana, John Abaa explained that Action Aid works with communities and as well use the community children as ambassadors to their sponsors.

According to Mr. Abaa, through the activities of some of these community children, their sponsors were able to contribute in groups for developmental projects that benefit these communities. He cited an example of a nursery school block building that was built for the community by Action Aid Ghana and its partners through funds raised by sponsors.

He however stressed that the children are mandated to draw or send messages to their sponsors across the country because that is the only way they acknowledge their sponsors and as well appreciate their sponsorship.

He noted that there has been a decline in the number of children often drawn from the community into schools. He blamed this on migration to urban areas and hence the need to engage parents, teachers and chiefs and other opinion leaders to deliberate on how to curtail the menace.

He also advised parents to help in educating their children especially those under aged on the importance of family planning, which he added will always give every child the opportunity to escape pregnancy while in school.
