Mrs. Diana Asoketarige Ayamga has been confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bongo District Assembly in the Upper East Region after securing 44 out of 54 votes cast.
All 44 members present, comprising elected and government appointees, voted in favour of her nomination, representing 81 percent endorsement.
The confirmation took place on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Bongo Circuit Court, where Assembly Members approved the President’s nominee.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Atanga Akamugri, who presided over the process, called on Assembly Members to confirm the nominee in honour of the late DCE, Joseph Akansake, whose passing left the position vacant.
He described the occasion as both emotional and significant, noting that exactly one year and one day had passed since the Assembly last gathered to confirm a DCE.
“His passing is not only a great loss to his immediate family, but also to the entire Bongo District and the region at large,” he said. “He served with dedication, humility and an unwavering commitment to development.”
The Minister urged members to rise above partisanship and support the nominee, describing the decision as a defining moment for the district’s development. He also described Ayamga as experienced and capable of continuing the work of her predecessor.
In her acceptance remarks, Mrs. Ayamga expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, Assembly Members and the people of Bongo for their support. She called for unity and pledged to continue ongoing development projects initiated by the late DCE while also expanding opportunities across the district.
She described her appointment as a “wake-up call” and pledged to prioritise women’s development and inclusion in governance. “I will not disappoint my fellow women,” she said, adding that she would work closely with women to address their development needs.
She also appealed for collective support to complete existing projects and initiate new ones in underserved communities.
The Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Naba Baba Salifu Atamale Alemyarum, urged the new DCE to lead with fairness and inclusivity. He encouraged her to seek guidance where necessary and assured her of the Traditional Council’s support in driving development across the district.
