Edward Bawa was taken out by a cabal; NPP can capitalize to win the seat – Andrew Atariwini

“If you look at Bongo for instance, I think Bongo is a good area that we can make some gains. Bongo, traditionally, has been NDC. I really admire Edward Bawa because he is an intelligent man but if you look at the way he was taken out, it can tell you that the NDC is not really that stable in Bongo,” Andrew Atariwini said when he assessed the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) primaries in the Upper East Region on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show with Mark Smith.

Mr. Atariwini was making arguments around which seats could fall to the NPP at the 2024 general election. He explained that Bongo could fall for the NPP because at recent elections, the party had seen tremendous appreciation in votes. Additionally, there may have been sinister acts to boot the MP out, a decision that does not bode well for the NDC, he said.

The Deputy Communication Director of the NPP, explained that information available to him suggests that “there was a huge cabal that thought that he didn’t respect elders and that he wanted to control a certain portion of the area. Instead of working with those who were the kingpins of the area, he wanted to now lead the charge and they thought that no, we are still on the ground and we are still here and you can’t do that. They took him out and brought somebody else. Politically speaking, if someone also decides to throw his weight and says, come and win the seat and let me see, it gives the opportunity if the NPP has a candidate.”

Mr. Atariwini was full of praise for the previous parliamentary candidate for the NPP and current Upper East Regional Communication Director for the NPP, Peter Ayamga Ayinbisa. “He grew the number from i think number from 9,000 or so to 17,000. That alone tells you that such a person, if he is pushed and is given the needed resources, and if the party can come by consensus and have the party in the region and in Bongoworking together with a common vision, I am telling you that we can give the Bongo seat a very good try and even taking it,” he said.

It would be recalled the Member of Parliament for Bongo, Edward Bawa was toppled by Lawyer Charles Bawadua at the recent primaries in Bongo.
