The incumbent Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga East Constituency, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has been re-elected by voters. While pleased with retaining the seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Ayine expressed disappointment that the party did not secure a wider margin of victory.

“I know the track record of the National Democratic Congress in the Bolgatanga East Constituency. We have been development-oriented since the creation of the district in 2012, and we have a fantastic track record. So, I expected to win by a bigger margin,” he said during an interview with Humul Khrusum Tahiru on A1 Radio’s special coverage of the 2024 elections.

Dr. Ayine alleged that in areas where poverty is endemic in the Bolgatanga East Constituency, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its candidate financially induced voters in their favor.

“It played a role in our loss at some polling stations or in reducing the margins of votes we obtained,” he said.

The MP further claimed that in the Dachio area, “They were parked there with a V8. He [Mathew Amoah] removed the number plate and was busily distributing money to people coming to vote. I am told on authority that they were giving 100 GHS per voter.”

Dr. Ayine added that at one polling station where the NPP candidate’s vehicle was spotted, the NPP managed to win.

Despite the unexpected margin, Dr. Ayine remarked, “I am still very happy with the faith the people of Bolgatanga East have placed in me. You can tell from the win that the majority of the people still have faith in Dr. Ayine and the NDC.”

Dr. Dominic Ayine of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was re-elected by voters in the Bolgatanga East Constituency of the Upper East Region.

Dr. Ayine defeated his opponent, Mathew Silas Amoah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), by securing 12,002 votes. Mr. Amoah received 7,415 votes.
