The Bongo District Assembly in the Upper East Region, led by the District Chief Executive (DCE), Joseph Abaa Akasake, joined residents of Zorko to observe National Sanitation Day with a major clean-up exercise at the Zorko Market.
The activity marked day three of a district-wide sanitation campaign, following similar exercises at Soe and Bongo Central. The event recorded massive participation from youth groups, traders, Assembly Members, and staff of the District Assembly.
After the exercise, the DCE, together with the Zorko Zonal Chairperson of Assembly Members, Hon. Alunga Martin, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants—particularly the youth and traders—for their enthusiasm and active involvement.
Hon. Akasake also extended solidarity messages from the President of the Republic, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, the Upper East Regional Minister, and the Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency.
He urged residents to view the sanitation campaign as a shared civic duty that must be sustained to achieve a cleaner and healthier environment. He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving sanitation infrastructure, and called on traditional authorities, youth groups, market women, and community members to continue supporting ongoing environmental cleanliness efforts.
Mr. Akasake commended all participants for honouring the call to clean the market.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment from community members and local authorities to sustain efforts against poor sanitation and ensure that Bongo remains a safe, healthy, and welcoming district.
