The United Kingdom branch of the Bolgatanga, Nangode, Bongo, and Tongo (BONABOTO) Union has donated two automatic blood pressure monitors to the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga.
An automatic blood pressure monitor is a digital device designed to measure blood pressure without the need for manual inflation or the use of a stethoscope.
The donation, valued at 3,183 British Pounds, aims to support the hospital’s efforts in providing quality healthcare services to patients.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, David Atugiya, former BONABOTO UK Secretary, emphasized the group’s commitment to giving back to their community. “We are in the UK, but we think about our people here. It’s part of our social responsibility to give back to where we belong,” he said.
Mr. Atugiya noted that this is not the first time BONABOTO UK has made a donation to the hospital, citing previous contributions such as tables, computers, and incubators.
Mr. Atugiya also urged others to join in supporting their communities, saying, “We cannot be in our comfort zones and expect things to work for our brothers and sisters, our mothers… So, every time, we are looking for what we can do to support our people back home. This is just one example.”
The BONABOTO team called on the hospital staff and management to ensure proper maintenance of the equipment.
Nurse Manager Catherine Anyoka, on behalf of the hospital’s management, expressed her appreciation to BONABOTO—both local and UK branches—for the gesture.
She assured the BONABOTO team that the machines would be put to good use and also called for more donations.
