Regional communications officer for Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign in the Upper East Region, Atohoba Peter, has argued that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant’s blend of political experience and business success uniquely positions him to tackle Ghana’s long-standing unemployment and development challenges.

Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Atohoba outlined why he believes Agyapong deserves to lead the NPP and eventually become President of Ghana. According to him, Agyapong’s political journey, which began in 2000, demonstrates endurance, service, and a solid understanding of national issues. After more than two decades in Parliament, Agyapong has accumulated the experience needed for national leadership, he said, noting that the candidate’s strong electoral record in Assin Central reflects constituents’ appreciation for his long-term contributions.

Mr. Atohoba highlighted Agyapong’s extensive business portfolio, which spans cold storage, starch production, steel manufacturing, and media operations. These ventures employ thousands of Ghanaians, he said, demonstrating the candidate’s ability to create sustainable jobs—an urgent need for the country.

“With a business mindset and a political mindset combined in one person, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong presents an ideal candidate to lead the NPP and transform Ghana as president,” he said.

He added that unemployment has persisted under successive governments from leaders with varied professional backgrounds, noting that Ghana has lacked a leader with strong business acumen and the capacity to industrialize regions. Agyapong’s knowledge of regional economic potentials, he argued, positions him to drive job creation and industrial transformation.

“The only way to solve these problems is to have a politician and businessman who can create businesses, create jobs, and turn regions into industrial hubs that support the main industries with local raw materials. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has done his homework region by region. During his Upper East tour, he explained to the people what is needed, what can be done, and the job avenues available,” Mr. Atohoba said.

In the Upper East Region, he said Agyapong has identified opportunities in agriculture, agro-processing, and year-round farming. The candidate has proposed strategies to extend farming beyond the rainy season and leverage underutilized natural resources.

Mr. Atohoba also pointed to Agyapong’s past interventions in northern Ghana, such as supplying a large generator to the Tamale Teaching Hospital during critical power outages. He said this demonstrates Agyapong’s empathy and commitment to national welfare rather than regional favoritism.

He described Agyapong as a leader grounded in discipline, honesty, and patriotism—qualities he says are necessary to correct inefficiencies in public service. He added that Agyapong is capable of demanding accountability and ensuring public resources reach intended beneficiaries.

While acknowledging that all NPP presidential aspirants are accomplished, Mr. Atohoba said delegates seeking rapid transformation and job creation would find Agyapong the most practical choice. He expressed confidence that, if elected NPP flagbearer and eventually President in 2028, Agyapong would bring significant change to governance and national development.

“We are waiting for the other aspirants to present their plans for the delegates in Upper East,” he said, urging rivals to focus on solutions rather than criticisms.
