Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has criticised the government’s 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, describing it as “full of English” but lacking practical solutions to Ghana’s economic challenges.
Speaking in Parliament after Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson presented the review on Thursday, Mr. Afenyo-Markin said the government’s statement contained impressive language and economic figures but failed to address the difficulties facing ordinary Ghanaians.
He said Ghanaians were expecting measures to reduce the cost of living, create jobs, support businesses and improve livelihoods.
Instead, he argued, the budget review focused on explanations and promises without outlining interventions that would provide immediate relief.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin maintained that despite the government’s claims of economic recovery, many Ghanaians continue to struggle with high living costs and economic uncertainty.
He urged the government to move beyond rhetoric and implement policies that would have a direct impact on the lives of citizens.
The remarks formed part of the Minority Caucus’ response to the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament.
The government has maintained that the Mid-Year Budget Review reflects improving economic indicators and outlines measures aimed at sustaining growth and restoring fiscal stability.
