Joy, gratitude and relief filled the St. John Bosco College of Education auditorium as 294 students from Navrongo Central—247 tertiary students and 47 senior high school students—received scholarships under an educational support initiative led by Member of Parliament Simon Aworigo.

For many beneficiaries, the support arrived at a critical moment.

One student who gained admission to a teacher training college said her parents had exhausted every option to raise fees.

“My mother cried because she thought I would never enter school,” she said, holding back tears. “Today, I can smile again because someone believed in us.”

Another beneficiary, an engineering student, said he had considered deferring his programme because of unpaid fees.
“This scholarship is the only reason I can continue. It has lifted a heavy burden off my family,” he said.

Mr. Aworigo explained that each student received between GHS 2,000 and GHS 4,000 depending on their fee structure. With school charges ranging from GHS 3,500 to GHS 7,000, the bursary significantly reduces the financial strain on low-income households.

“This support is not for everyone,” the MP stressed. “It is for students who are academically capable but genuinely unable to pay—those whose parents simply cannot afford.”

Parents were equally emotional. One father broke down in tears as he thanked the MP for preventing his daughter from dropping out.

Mr. Aworigo reiterated that the initiative is not a one-off gesture but a sustained intervention supported by GETFund, the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat and other partners. He reminded the gathering that educational support was a key campaign pledge.
“As long as I remain in Parliament, this is something I will do every year,” he assured.

For many of the beneficiaries, the scholarships represent more than financial relief— they are a lifeline, a restored hope, and a pathway toward transforming the future of Navrongo Central.
