The Communications Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region has held its annual retreat for Constituency Communications Officers (CCOs) as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s communication machinery and enhance effective information delivery in a rapidly evolving media environment.
The retreat, held at the TAP Hotel, brought together constituency-level communicators from across the region to reflect on emerging trends in political communication, sharpen their messaging skills, and align their strategies with the party’s broader communication objectives ahead of key political engagements.
Addressing participants, the Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, described the retreat as a strategic platform designed to equip party communicators with the skills and tools required to navigate the increasingly dynamic nature of information dissemination.
He noted that the rapid expansion of digital media, social platforms, and instant news sharing has significantly transformed political communication, making it essential for party communicators to be proactive, accurate, and disciplined in their messaging.
“This retreat is important because information delivery is no longer static. The dynamics keep changing, and as communicators, we must understand these changes, master them, and use them effectively to project the message of the NDC,” Mr. Abdallah Salifu said.
He identified misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda—particularly on social media—as major challenges within the political space, stressing the need for CCOs to counter false narratives with facts, clarity, and consistency.
Mr. Abdallah Salifu emphasized that constituency communicators serve as the frontline voices of the party at the grassroots level, making their role critical in shaping public perception and sustaining trust among party supporters and the general public.
He added that the retreat also seeks to promote unity, coordination, and professionalism within the party’s communication structure, ensuring coherence between messages from the national, regional, and constituency levels.
Participants were taken through sessions on strategic communication, message framing, media engagement, crisis communication, and the responsible use of social media. The retreat also provided a platform for experience sharing, feedback, and practical discussions on challenges faced by communicators in their respective constituencies.
The annual retreat forms part of the NDC Communications Bureau’s broader commitment to building a strong, responsive, and modern communication network capable of effectively engaging the electorate and articulating the party’s policies, achievements, and vision for Ghana.
Organizers say the retreat is expected to empower CCOs with renewed confidence and skills to effectively communicate the NDC’s message across the Upper East Region.
