Residents of Kalbeo in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region have marked the 32nd Teng-Malgo Festival with renewed calls for unity and accelerated development.

The festival, founded in 1993, was established to promote peace, unity and community development.

Speaking at the event, the Assembly Member for the Kalbeo Electoral Area, Sonny Ayariga, outlined several developmental challenges facing the community, including poor road infrastructure, limited health facilities, inadequate educational infrastructure, agricultural constraints and incomplete electricity connections.

“Kalbeo is not far from the regional capital, Bolgatanga. However, we are lacking many basic developmental needs,” he said.

Ayariga appealed for the renovation of the community’s clinic, which was opened in 1993, and the construction of access roads to improve mobility. He also emphasized the need for irrigation facilities to support dry-season farming, citing the area’s potential to increase food production.

The community is seeking improved access to potable drinking water, as several boreholes and water facilities are not functioning effectively. Ayariga further called for additional furniture for Ayuusi-Yine Primary and Junior High School and the renovation of classroom blocks.

He noted that some parts of the community are still awaiting electricity connectivity. Ayariga expressed appreciation to the government and the area’s Member of Parliament for ongoing road improvement efforts and appealed for further support to address the remaining challenges.

Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive Roland Atanga Ayoo, who graced the festival, stressed the importance of peace and unity among residents.

“Without unity, development cannot thrive,” he said, pledging to support the community in addressing some of the needs highlighted.

Godwin Akapire, the first Assembly Member for the Kalbeo Electoral Area, speaking on behalf of the chief and elders, urged the youth to unite and work with authorities to advance the development of the community.
