The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) is urging transport unions in the Upper East Region to prioritize road safety measures in order to reduce accidents and casualties on the roads.

The call was made during an interactive session with heads of transport unions in the region, where the NRSA emphasized the importance of defensive driving and adherence to road safety practices.

Osei Kwarteng, Principal Transport Assistant at the NRSA in the Upper East Region, noted that although road deaths declined in 2025 compared with previous years, more needs to be done to further reduce the numbers.

“We urge the unions to ensure that all safety measures are put in place to reduce deaths and injuries on the road,” he said.

The NRSA also assured transport unions that its doors remain open for continued dialogue on road safety concerns.

Fatwa Atinga, Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), said the union has already taken steps to promote safety among its members but welcomed the NRSA’s engagement on the issue.
