The Chief Executive Officer of Norgence IT Solutions, Albert Naa, has emphasized the importance of responsible social media use, particularly among young people, warning that online behavior can have lasting consequences on personal and professional lives.
Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, he explained that responsible use of social media involves engaging in ways that do not harm oneself or others. He likened online conduct to behavior in public spaces, stressing that individuals must remain mindful of their actions at all times.
He noted that young people are the most active users of social media, making them more vulnerable to misuse if proper guidance is lacking. According to him, many young users explore various digital spaces without fully understanding the implications of their actions.
Albert Naa further highlighted that social media activity creates a lasting digital footprint that shapes how individuals are perceived. He explained that online behavior gradually builds a profile that others—including potential employers—may rely on when making decisions.
“Sometimes we do things and think people are not watching, but people are watching. And social media does not forget.”
He cautioned that inappropriate online conduct, including cyberbullying and the promotion of violent behavior, can limit future opportunities. Such actions, he said, not only harm victims but also negatively affect the individuals responsible, potentially damaging their reputation and career prospects.
“The things you are posting online, or your online activities, are more or less like a trail that people who are watching you will define you by, because you can’t say you are black when you are always showing red things.”
“If I know that you are a violent person and one day I see you in an interview room, of course I will not want you to join my company. There are other people who may also have opportunities for you, but because of what they have seen you do on social media, they may rescind and not let those opportunities come to you,” Mr. Naa stressed.
