The St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bongo Soe has marked the feast of its patron saint, St. Joseph the Worker, on Friday, May 1, 2026, with a call on workers to dedicate their labour to God.
In a sermon, Rev. Fr. Ernest Nabonasongo told the congregation that all work should be seen as service to God and not only to human beings. He urged workers to remain diligent and committed in their duties, noting that such discipline leads to excellence and long-term reward.
He also highlighted the significance of the celebration coinciding with May Day, a global observance honouring workers. He said the alignment serves as a reminder of the dignity of labour and the example of St. Joseph, the foster father of Jesus Christ.
Speaking at the event, Moses Amooro Ayisoba said the Church plays a key role in shaping society and called for stronger collaboration between religious institutions and communities. He urged people to embrace hard work and avoid laziness.
“From my observation, hardworking people live well, no matter how small their salaries may be,” he said.
Church elders encouraged members to respect all forms of work and avoid judging others based on their professions. They also urged leaders to act with fairness and integrity, warning that they would be accountable for how they treat others.
The celebration featured singing, dancing, and communal meals, with members also presenting items for blessing, which were consecrated by Rev. Fr. Nabonasongo.
The organizing committee, led by Isaac Akugre, called for stronger cooperation between workers and government, saying mutual respect is key to productivity and national development.
