Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Paul Afoko has called on party members to set aside past differences and unite ahead of the 2028 general elections, as he tours the Upper East Region to consult on his bid for the NPP national chairmanship.
Mr. Afoko made the appeal during a meeting with some party executives and members in the region, stressing that unity is the only path for the NPP to recapture power.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Afoko urged members to focus on the bigger goal of winning the 2028 elections rather than internal divisions.
“We have to pull all our skills together, unite, and go in the same direction in order to regain power,” he said.
“Let’s put everything behind us and unite for power.”
He argued that the NPP’s strength lies in its collective base, and only a united front can deliver victory at the polls.
Mr. Afoko’s engagement in the Upper East forms part of a broader consultation tour as he seeks to re-enter the race for the party’s top job.
He used the platform to share his vision for rebuilding the NPP’s structures, strengthening grassroots operations, and restoring confidence among the rank and file.
The party executives present welcomed the message of unity, noting that reconciliation and cohesion will be key as the NPP prepares for its internal elections and the 2028 general elections.
Mr. Afoko served as NPP National Chairman after being elected on April 12, 2014. He was removed from the position following an indefinite suspension on October 23, 2015, after a recommendation by the party’s National Disciplinary Committee.
His return to active party engagements has sparked renewed discussions about leadership, unity, and the party’s direction ahead of 2028.
With his campaign centered on reconciliation and winning power, Mr. Afoko is expected to continue similar engagements across other regions in the coming weeks.
