The Chief of Digaare, Naab Ibrahim Boarebon, Kankapuuya Naa, has barred the Talensi Mining Communities Initiative (TAMCI) from organising any demonstration within his jurisdiction and adjoining communities over planned protests against Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited (CNML).

In a letter dated May 4, 2026, addressed to the leadership of TAMCI and intercepted by the media, the chief stated unequivocally that the group is not permitted to carry out its intended demonstration scheduled between May 8 and 10, 2026.

“As Chief of one of the recognized host communities of the CNML mining operations, I wish to state unequivocally that your group, TAMCI, is hereby barred from organizing or carrying out any form of demonstration on the lands of Digaare and its adjoining communities,” he declared.

Naab Boarebon expressed concern over what he described as the group’s previous conduct during a demonstration held in August 2025, accusing TAMCI of failing to engage constructively and instead making “divisive demands,” including calls for the dismissal of some company staff and showing disrespect to traditional authorities.

“It is deeply concerning that your previous demonstration lacked substance and deviated from constructive engagement… Such conduct undermines the values of respect, unity, and dialogue that our communities uphold,” he said.

The chief further noted that ongoing negotiations between the mining company and host communities on a Social Responsibility Agreement (SRA) were at an advanced stage and warned that further protests could derail progress.

“Both parties have harmonized their positions and are on the verge of signing a mutually beneficial agreement. This must not be derailed,” he cautioned.

He warned that continued agitation by TAMCI could threaten peace and stability in the Talensi area, emphasizing that development could only thrive in an atmosphere of cooperation.

Naab Boarebon also advised the youth in the area to remain law-abiding and avoid involvement in activities that could undermine their prospects.

“The path to sustainable development and employment lies not in road protests or acts of hostility, but in the acquisition of relevant skills and positive engagement,” he stated.

The chief additionally called on security agencies to be vigilant, citing intelligence that the group may attempt to mobilise individuals from outside the area to infiltrate the protest and potentially incite disturbances.

He urged TAMCI to reconsider its actions and prioritize dialogue over confrontation in addressing concerns related to mining operations in the district.
