Residents of Gowrie have expressed gratitude to former Bongo Member of Parliament and CEO of Ghana GOIL PLC, Edward Abagbire Bawa, for cutting the sod for a mechanised borehole project to improve access to clean drinking water in the community.

The project is expected to address a long-standing challenge, as residents of Gowrie and surrounding communities have for years relied on unreliable water sources.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Bawa said access to potable water remains a priority and that no community should be held back by a lack of basic necessities.

“Once completed, the borehole will ease the daily burden of water collection and allow residents to focus on their livelihoods,” he said.

He urged community members to remain disciplined and proactive, and to use peaceful and constructive means to address their concerns. As CEO of GOIL, Mr. Bawa acknowledged persistent gaps in Ghana’s water delivery systems, particularly between urban and rural areas, and reaffirmed his commitment to advocating sustainable, long-term solutions.

The project forms part of broader efforts to improve health, sanitation, education, and living conditions in the Bongo Constituency. Community leaders and residents described the intervention as timely, noting it will particularly benefit women and children who often travel long distances to fetch water.
