The Upper East Regional Police Command has retrieved 1,400 rounds of ammunition from a mechanic workshop near the Assemblies of God Church in Bolgatanga.
The recovery followed a report made to the police on May 9, 2026, by an auto mechanic, who said his apprentice discovered suspicious items while sweeping the workshop premises.
Police officers dispatched to the scene recovered two sealed packets concealed in fertilizer sacks inside a hen coop at the workshop.
According to the police, the packets contained a total of 1,400 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, with each packet containing 700 rounds.
The ammunition has been retained in police custody for evidential purposes as investigations continue to determine its source and ownership.
