Family members, friends, parishioners and members of the Catholic community gathered at Bongo-Anafobisi in the Upper East Region to lay to rest the late Catechist Jacob Ayadoo Mba, who was remembered for his humility, dedication and service to the church.
The burial took place at his family residence, where choir groups and gospel musicians from across the district and beyond paid tribute through music and prayer.
Catechist Mba was born on Dec. 30, 1976, in Anafobisi, a suburb of Bongo. He died on April 8, 2026.
He attended Bongo L/A Primary School and later Bongo Junior Secondary School, where he obtained his Basic Education Certificate Examination certificate in 1991. He continued to Bongo Senior Secondary School and completed his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination in 1994.
He later trained in carpentry at Kusabgnaba Vocational Institute in Bemnaba.
In 2004, St. Anne’s Catholic Church ordained him as a substantive catechist in recognition of his commitment to the Catholic faith. He subsequently dedicated his life to evangelism, youth mentorship and church activities.
In 2005, he married Madam Dominca Tenii Akolgo, and the couple had four children: Beatrice Awinsongya Akolgo, Patrick Awinsongya Mba, Claudia Ayebase Mba and Benaiah Awinlooya Mba.
Beyond his religious duties, Catechist Mba was known for his passion for choral music. He served as a chorister and contributed to the growth of traditional gospel music in the area, supporting musicians including Anaa Bugre, Alogte Oho and Cletus Avilla.
As part of activities marking his burial, Catholic choristers in the Bongo District organised a solemn choral music night in his honour.
The event featured performances by choir groups from five zones — Soe, Namoo, Beo, Zorko and Bongo — as singers and parishioners celebrated his life through hymns and gospel music.
Organisers said the programme was intended to honour his legacy and offer prayers for his peaceful rest.
Some choristers described him as a committed church leader whose contributions to the Catholic community and the district would be greatly missed.
Residents and members of the Catholic Church said his legacy of faith, music and service would continue to inspire future generations.
