The Upper East Regional Organizer of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA), Samuel Dabang, has described the association’s donation to the Navrongo Central Prison as part of its core mandate to support and monitor zone activities while fulfilling a broader social responsibility.
Mr. Dabang, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SAMCOM Fashion, represented the regional executives during the presentation of three bags of maize, seven bags of rice, three boxes of soap, eight cartons of soft drinks, 12 packs of sachet water, and first aid medication donated by the Bolgatanga Central Zone One of GNTDA.
Speaking at the ceremony, he said it was important for the regional body to be present whenever a zone undertakes such an initiative.
“As a regional body, we coordinate all the zones. So, if any zone is embarking on an exercise, it is incumbent on us to take part and see how the zones are faring in their respective areas. That is one of our core mandates, to monitor the zones, the activities they embark on, and also take part,” he said.
Mr. Dabang stressed that visiting and supporting inmates should not be left to the government alone, but should be seen as a responsibility for all citizens.
“Coming to visit the inmates is one of the issues that everybody, not only fashion designers or dressmakers, should take part in. It is our social responsibility because they are our brothers who are here. It is everybody’s responsibility to support the government in taking care of the inmates,” he stated.
He added that the gesture reflects the association’s commitment to community engagement beyond tailoring and dressmaking, and encouraged other groups and individuals with the means to also extend support to prisons across the region.
