The Executive Board of the Upper East Regional Taekwondo Association has set June 27 for its 2026 annual Taekwondo championship.

The decision was taken at a meeting held on Friday, May 15, 2026, where the Board approved the date as a suitable period for the tournament.

The championship is aimed at identifying, scouting, and training athletes ahead of the Korea Ambassador’s Cup Championship scheduled for August 2026 in Accra.

Last year, Team Upper East won five medals at the Korea Ambassador’s Cup in Accra, comprising two gold, two silver, and one bronze medal. The upcoming championship is expected to help selectors identify athletes capable of surpassing that performance.

Ahead of the event, the Executive Board has opened registration for practitioners in the following categories: Kyorugi (sparring), Poomsae (forms), and Kyupa (breaking).

The tournament will take place at the Bolgatanga Catholic Social Centre on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 8:00 a.m.

Students and practitioners from six private schools and one public school are expected to participate. The schools are: Great Victory Academy, Dream School, East Brown Community School, Golden Step International School, Excel Academy, Presentation Brothers, and Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High School.

Organisers say medals, trophies, and cash prizes will be awarded to outstanding athletes, while all participants will receive certificates.
