The Member of Parliament for Talensi, Daniel Mahama Dung, has assured residents that efforts are underway to address water challenges affecting parts of the constituency.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Dung acknowledged that while many communities have benefited from borehole projects over the years, some newly developing areas continue to face difficulties accessing potable water.
He noted that successive leaders, including former MPs, have contributed significantly to improving water access in the area. According to him, nearly 50 boreholes have been drilled or rehabilitated within the last one and a half years under his administration.
Mr. Dung said all assembly members in the constituency had been supported with boreholes to be allocated to communities with critical water needs.
He was responding to recent concerns and social media reports about protests by residents over water shortages in parts of the constituency.
The MP explained that in one of the affected communities, two boreholes were available, but one had broken down while another mechanised system was disrupted due to electricity supply challenges after rainstorms damaged utility poles in the area.
“The unrest was necessary because water is life, and the people were genuinely struggling,” he said.
Mr. Dung added that, together with the District Chief Executive and other stakeholders, immediate interventions were implemented, including the provision of generators to temporarily pump water while repair works were carried out.
He further disclosed that plans are underway to mechanise additional boreholes and install hand-pump systems in vulnerable communities to prevent future shortages.
