TESCON is a winning election machinery – NPP regional youth organiser aspirant

An aspiring Upper East Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Akumbo Awintariba, has called for the restructuring and revitalisation of the party’s Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON), describing it as a key tool for winning future elections.

Speaking on A1 Radio, he said the party has not fully utilised some of its internal structures, particularly TESCON, despite its potential to mobilise young people and intellectuals for political success.

According to him, TESCON should not only be viewed as the intellectual wing of the party but also as an election-winning machinery capable of helping the NPP regain power from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“And the reality I have picked from the ground is that we are not using some of the structures as much as we can use them. One among them is the TESCON chapter,” he stated.

The aspirant proposed a strategy involving the restructuring and re-energising of TESCON chapters across tertiary institutions, with the appointment of ambassadors within faculties and hostels to strengthen mobilisation efforts.

He further suggested that each TESCON member should be tasked to recruit at least five students into the party as part of broader efforts to rebuild the NPP’s support base among young people.

The youth organiser hopeful also revealed plans to establish youth groups across all 15 constituencies in the Upper East Region if elected into office.

According to him, the move is necessary to empower and protect young party supporters, who he claimed faced intimidation during the 2024 general elections, particularly in parts of the eastern corridor of the region.

“We were intimidated so seriously in 2024. Every well-meaning Ghanaian in the Upper East can testify to what I am saying,” he alleged.

He maintained that a stronger and more organised youth front would position the NPP to reconnect with grassroots supporters and improve its electoral fortunes in future elections.
