The Senior Girls’ Prefect of Sirigu Integrated Senior High School in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, Yvonne Apoka Ayinpoya, has appealed to government agencies, development partners, non-governmental organizations, old students, philanthropists, and corporate institutions to support the school with critical facilities to improve teaching and learning.

Speaking on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga programme, Miss Ayinpoya outlined several challenges confronting the school, including the lack of a functional toilet facility, inadequate water supply, and a shortage of classroom furniture.

She said one of the most pressing challenges is the absence of a functional toilet facility on campus. According to her, the school currently does not have a single usable toilet for students and staff.

She explained that a toilet facility intended for female students was initiated by the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly in 2017 but has since been abandoned and remains incomplete, leaving students without proper sanitation facilities for nearly a decade.

“The school does not have a single functional toilet facility as we speak. The toilet project meant for girls was started in 2017, but it remains abandoned and has never been completed for students’ use,” she stated.

Miss Ayinpoya noted that the lack of sanitation facilities poses serious health and hygiene risks to both students and staff while also affecting the overall learning environment.

She also highlighted the challenge of unreliable water supply in the school, stressing that access to clean water is essential for drinking, sanitation, and daily activities. She said frequent water shortages create difficulties for students and negatively affect academic work.

In addition, she appealed for support in providing classroom furniture, explaining that some students struggle with inadequate chairs during lessons. She said improved seating arrangements would help create a more comfortable and conducive environment for learning.

Miss Ayinpoya expressed optimism that with the necessary support, Sirigu Integrated Senior High School would continue to improve academic performance and nurture responsible future leaders.

She therefore called on the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Education Service, the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly, alumni of the school, NGOs, charitable organizations, and benevolent individuals to come to the aid of the school.

“Education can only thrive when students have access to basic facilities. We appeal to all stakeholders to support our school with a functional toilet facility, reliable water supply, and classroom chairs to improve learning conditions and help us achieve greater academic success,” she appealed.

Her appeal highlights the urgent need for investment in educational infrastructure to ensure that students learn in a safe, healthy, and conducive environment.
