Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Paul Afoko has once again declared his innocence in the 2015 murder of the late Upper East Regional Chairman, Adams Mahama, insisting that neither he nor his family was involved in the incident.

Mr. Afoko made the statement while meeting with party executives and members in the region as part of consultations ahead of his bid for the NPP national chairmanship position.

Addressing the gathering, the former chairman said he had allowed political opponents to “play games” with him, but stressed that accusations linking him to Adams Mahama’s death were false.

“We allowed people to come and play games with us. Our late Regional Chairman, Adams. I can stand here today and tell you that I have no hand in his death. Not me or my family,” he said.

Adams Mahama, the former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), died on May 21, 2015, after a brutal acid attack. Two men, Gregory Afoko and Asabke Alangdi, were accused of masterminding and executing the assassination, which subsequently went through the court process.

However, recounting his relationship with the late NPP Upper East Regional Chairman, Mr. Mahama, Mr. Afoko disclosed that they shared family and professional ties.

He said the late chairman endorsed his nomination forms for the 2014 national chairmanship contest.

The incident remains one of the most sensitive issues in the NPP, particularly in the Upper East Region.

Mr. Afoko’s meeting forms part of a nationwide consultation tour as he seeks to return as NPP National Chairman. He is using the engagements to present his vision for party unity, reorganization, and victory in the 2028 general elections.

Party executives present listened to his remarks, with discussions expected to continue as he moves to other regions.
