Two-time New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Francis Addai-Nimoh has endorsed former National Chairman Paul Afoko, backing his bid to return to the party’s top leadership position ahead of internal elections.

Mr. Addai-Nimoh made the endorsement during a visit to the Upper East Region, where he accompanied Mr. Afoko and his team to meet party members in Bolgatanga.

Addressing the gathering, he described Afoko as a unifying figure the party needs in its current moment.

“Today, I am here to lend my support to the son of the land of Upper East, and to make a case for him for consideration for the position of the National Chairmanship. And that is the person of Awintami Paul Afoko, the giant Paul Afoko,” he said.

He argued that Afoko’s tenure as National Chairman, which began in 2014 but was cut short in 2015, should be completed.

“It is also prudent that Mr. Afoko and the team decided to come and interact with you so that his intention of coming back to complete the tenure of his administration that began in 2014 but was cut short in 2015 can be achieved,” he said.

Mr. Addai-Nimoh said the NPP is currently in a difficult period and needs leadership that can heal divisions and restore unity among members.

He declined to delve into detailed policy arguments, saying his focus was on Afoko’s leadership qualities.

“As for his policy message, he will deliver it. For me, I am here to make the case for him,” he said.

He added that the current mood within the party calls for reconciliation and stronger internal cohesion.

Paul Afoko’s visit to the Upper East Region forms part of nationwide consultations ahead of his bid to return as NPP National Chairman.

Party executives and members who attended the engagement welcomed the message of unity from both men. Afoko is expected to continue similar consultations across other regions in the coming weeks as he outlines his vision for party reorganization and the 2028 general elections.
