The Dr. Kenneth Elvis Anewenah Foundation, in partnership with the Angel Care Foundation, has donated baby cots and relief items to the Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Health Centre and the Mother of Mercy Babies Home in Sirigu in the Kasena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, Ghana.
The outreach took place on June 28 as part of efforts to support maternal healthcare services and the welfare of vulnerable children in the area.
Mr. Haruna Saana, Physician Assistant at the Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Health Centre, said the facility serves a large rural population where many women access antenatal and delivery services.
“Our referral centres are in Bolgatanga and Navrongo, which are far from here,” he said. “Many women deliver here, and basic equipment such as baby cots is important in supporting care for newborns.”
Rev. Felix Anafo, Priest of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese overseeing the Mother of Mercy Babies Home, said the home provides care for children who are unable to remain with their biological families.
“We care for orphans, abandoned babies, and children whose parents are unable to provide care,” he said. “The home supports them in early childhood before they are transferred to the Centre for Child Development after the age of four.”
He explained that the facility continues to play a critical social role in supporting vulnerable children within the diocese.
As part of the donation, baby cots were given to the health centre to support newborn care services.
The Mother of Mercy Babies Home received diapers, bottled water, bags of rice, baby wipes, liquid soap, liquid bleach, disinfectants, cereal mix, and infant formula to support daily care for the children.
Mr. Moses Bamidele, Board Secretary of the Dr. Kenneth Elvis Anewenah Foundation, said the outreach reflects the foundation’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and strengthening healthcare delivery in underserved communities.
He said the foundation will continue working with partners to extend support to institutions caring for mothers and children.
