The 2009 Year Group of Bolgatanga Senior High School (BigBoss) has donated 300 ladles to the school’s dining hall to help improve sanitation and hygiene for students. The donation, valued at over GHS 5,000, was presented to school authorities by the year group’s Alumni President, Abraham Adongo.

Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Adongo said the donation followed a request from the school management a few weeks ago.

“A few weeks ago, we had a request from the school that they needed some cooking utensils in the dining hall for the students,” he said. “And they approached me as the 2009 year group lead to see if we could get something for them. So I quickly spoke with my colleagues and we decided to make some contributions. Thankfully, we were able to raise some money and secure 300 ladles.”

Mr. Adongo said the year group prioritised the request because hygiene in the dining hall is critical to student health.

“You know, sanitation and hygiene in the dining hall is very important. And because of that, we see that they are our small brothers and sisters. So we see it’s very important to help them. Even though the request came very urgently, we think that we need to put something together and help them,” he added.

The Alumni President also outlined future support projects the 2009 Year Group is considering for the school.

“So in the future, we are thinking of adopting a particular house or a particular classroom to renovate and possibly furnish them if they are having furniture issues. As the headmaster said, a lot of the classrooms are not looking nice. So aesthetically, we can paint, we can also provide furniture for them to have convenience in terms of classes,” he said.

He added that the group is also considering supporting the school’s dispensary.

“I was there this morning and they said that they need a lot of things because support from the government is not enough. So the dispensary, we can also see how to get some drugs and other equipment for them. But as I said, these are things that I have to discuss with my group and then we confirm before we take it.”

School authorities received the items and thanked the 2009 Year Group for the timely intervention.

The Headmaster of BigBoss, Anthony Adimazoya, used the opportunity to call on other old students to support the school, considering the numerous challenges facing the institution.
