The Alumni President of the Bolgatanga Senior High School (BigBoss) 2009 Year Group, Abraham Adongo, has urged current students to avoid violence and focus on their education and personal development.

Mr. Adongo made the appeal after presenting 300 cooking ladles worth more than GHS 5,000 to the school to support hygiene in the dining hall.

Speaking to the media, he said the school was relatively peaceful during his time as a student.

“I think our time, as I said, we completed in 2009. That was our first days. It was relatively calm. We were not hearing any violence,” he said.

Mr. Adongo said the Headmaster had briefed the alumni on recent security concerns, including a near incident on campus that was prevented through the efforts of school staff.

“He hinted that there was a time that there was a near explosion on campus, but due to the hard work of his staff, they were able to put it under control,” Mr. Adongo stated.

He also expressed concern about reports of violence in some Senior High Schools in the region, including incidents in which students allegedly pulled down school walls.

“I raised that issue because you would have heard that some students were pulling down school wall in some Senior High Schools in the region. So, we don’t want to hear that about Big Boss, which our former school is,” he said.

Mr. Adongo encouraged students to make the most of their three years in school by concentrating on their studies rather than tribalism, violence, or conflicts over relationships.

“So as I indicated, the students should see Big Boss as the best place to learn and better their future going forward. You are only here for only three years. And so, if you come here and then you are fighting, you are focusing on tribal concentrations and chasing girls and then fighting boys over girls or tribal links, which will affect your future,” he cautioned.

“In the end, your parents will not be proud of you. Big Boss will not be proud of you. You will not be proud of yourself. If we were like that, Bowling wouldn’t have gone far to be able to come back and help.”

He added that students should see themselves as one family and prepare for life beyond school.

“And so, I advise them to take their learning seriously and see themselves as brothers and sisters and look at the bigger picture in the future because after here is where life really starts.”

School management thanked the 2009 Year Group for the donation and pledged to continue working to maintain peace and discipline on campus.
