Former Zebilla Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Patrick Ayaba, has filed his nomination to contest for Upper East Regional Chairman, pledging to unite the party and strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to journalists after filing his nomination, Mr. Ayaba said his experience as a constituency chairman exposed him to challenges confronting party executives at the grassroots level and motivated his decision to seek the regional position.
“I have successfully filed my nomination to contest for the position of Regional Chairman. During my time as Constituency Chairman, I witnessed many difficulties, and I do not want my colleagues to continue facing the same challenges,” he said.
Mr. Ayaba identified disunity as one of the major challenges affecting the NPP’s performance in the Upper East Region, arguing that divisions that emerge from internal elections are often left unresolved.
“Unity is the key to success. Whenever we are united, we achieve more. After every internal election, misunderstandings arise, but we fail to bring everyone together. Those divisions continue to grow and eventually affect the party’s performance,” he said.
He pledged to prioritise reconciliation, inclusiveness and teamwork if elected, saying a united party would be critical to the NPP’s efforts to return to power in the 2028 general elections.
Mr. Ayaba also called for active leadership at the regional level, saying the party needs a chairman who can mobilise members, engage young people and strengthen its structures across the region.
“As an opposition party, we need a leader who will work tirelessly on the ground, unite our members, inspire the youth, and position the NPP for victory in 2028,” he said.
He said he would outline his vision and plans for the NPP in the Upper East Region in the coming weeks.
The NPP is expected to hold its regional executive elections as part of its reorganisation ahead of the 2028 general elections.
