Former National President of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA), Alhaji Safianu Baala Saeed, has urged young people to take advantage of TikTok to market their skills and products and create economic opportunities rather than using the platform solely for entertainment.
He said TikTok’s large audience provides an opportunity for young people, including tailors, dressmakers and other skilled workers, to showcase their work, reach potential customers and build sustainable businesses.
Alhaji Saeed made the call during the GNTDA Regional Conference held at the Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School in the Upper East Region, where he served as chairman of the conference.
He said the platform could also be used to promote Ghanaian culture, local food, tourism and other economic activities to audiences within and outside the country.
Alhaji Saeed, however, expressed concern about some of the content being produced on TikTok, arguing that social media users should consider the impact their content has on society.
He encouraged content creators to use their audiences to promote ideas, skills and businesses that can benefit themselves and their communities.
According to him, social media presents opportunities for young people who have acquired vocational and other practical skills to advertise their products and services without relying solely on traditional forms of marketing.
He said responsible use of platforms such as TikTok could help young entrepreneurs attract customers, expand their businesses and generate sustainable income.
Alhaji Saeed therefore encouraged young people to combine creativity and entertainment with entrepreneurship by using their online presence to create opportunities for themselves and others.
His comments formed part of discussions at the GNTDA Regional Conference, which brought together tailors, dressmakers and other industry stakeholders to discuss challenges confronting the profession and opportunities for growth.
