Vitus Akoligeya Apana, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bolgatanga East Constituency, has declared his intention to contest the position of Constituency Youth Organiser in the party’s upcoming constituency executive elections.
Mr Apana, a member of the Atugrebisi Polling Station in the Zuarungu-North Electoral Area, said his decision was driven by his desire to contribute his experience, energy and expertise to the development of the party’s youth wing.
He described his leadership journey as one built from the grassroots, highlighting various leadership positions he has occupied from his days in basic school to his involvement in student and party politics.
His leadership experience includes serving as Assistant Boys Prefect at Zuarungu Primary School, Senior Boys Prefect at Adukrah JHS, Public Relations Officer of the Students’ Representative Council at St. John Bosco College of Education and Communications Officer of TEIN-UEW.
He said his performance in student politics and communication earned him the Student Politician of the Year award under the Triple Crown Award scheme involving TEIN, BONABOTO and ASSENS-UEW in the 2023/2024 academic year.
Within the NDC, Mr Apana has served two terms as Branch Youth Organiser for Atugrebisi and as Ward Secretary for Zuarungu-North.
He has also served for five years on the Upper East Regional Communications Team and as a member of the Regional Communications Working Committee.
Additionally, he served on the Regional Elections Supervisory Committee and was National Communications Officer for the Bring Mahama Back Movement, a group that campaigned for the return of former President John Dramani Mahama.
Mr Apana said his experience at the various levels of the party had given him an understanding of the challenges confronting the grassroots and the aspirations of young members.
If elected, he said his administration would focus on a three-pillar agenda of remobilisation, empowerment and strategic communication.
Under remobilisation, he intends to rekindle volunteerism among young party members, while the empowerment pillar would seek to move beyond rhetoric and make the youth wing more relevant to young people.
He also plans to strengthen strategic communication to amplify the voice of young people within the constituency and beyond.
“I am a product of this party’s structures. I understand the pain of the branch, the aspirations of the ward, and the vision of the constituency.”
Mr Apana said his experience in grassroots organisation, communication and party administration had prepared him to serve as Constituency Youth Organiser.
He is therefore appealing to NDC members and delegates in the Bolgatanga East Constituency for their prayers, counsel and support as he seeks the mandate to lead the constituency’s youth wing.
He pledged to work towards building a more active, empowered and strategically organised youth wing if given the opportunity to serve.
